2019年7月30日，兩名天水圍青年係天富苑附近連儂牆，因為某中年人起爭執、報假案而被捕，帶回警署。及後係午夜時份，居民聚集於天水圍警署外，要求釋放兩名被捕青年人。麥子強係呢個時候，走出警署向示威者舉中指，又稱示威者係「曱甴」。
